Nature conservation and eco-tourism go hand-in-hand
The Papuas have a long history in wich they lived in perfect harmony with nature. The increase in population, structural deforestation and uncontrolled mining of natural sources have led to major changes in their original way of living.
By supporting eco-tourism initiatives in West Papua the SDSP helps the conservation of the still existing pure nature. Earnings from eco-tourism are a good alternative for the local population as they don't need to seek to for means of living out of lumber exploitation or destructive ways of fishing.
The SDSP also initiates co-operations with local governments, international nature conservation organizations to protect parts from the virgin forests and ocean waters against overexploitation and pollution. A good example of this co-operation is our FSC project.
